Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Casablanca, Morocco!
Of all the places in all the world, Casablanca -- made famous around the globe by Humphrey Bogart in the namesake film -- in reality has evolved into a thriving, efficient business locale synonymous with wealth, style and big city amenities. These credentials combined with the Rick's Café mystique of Hollywood immortality make Casablanca the most visited city in North Africa, with a wealth of stellar hotels and other lodging options. Central Casablanca, a maze of narrow streets lined with shops, is the original Arab town, partly enclosed by the old wall. Central Casablanca also boasts the Place Mohamed V, a square flanked by splendid French Colonial architecture housing government and private sector offices around a central fountain. South Casablanca, also known as the Quartier Habous or district of holy men, was built by the French in an attempt to resolve housing woes of the 1930s. Efforts to blend traditional Moroccan architecture with modern urban planning proved surprisingly successful. Among many religious sites in Morocco, the Marabout is believed the burial place of holy men. These picturesque white-domed-tombs are a few miles outside the city, on a rocky island off the beach reached only at low tide. Pilgrims often make their way here in search of great spiritual healing powers. Visitors to Casablanca as well as other Moroccan cities quickly learn bargaining is an art -- sometimes conducted over tea -- but always serious business. With tourists, the typical vendor practice is to ask double or triple an item's value. Visitors will do well to slice any first offer in half and proceed from there. A first visit into the marketplace can be a good time to comparison shop by browsing without buying. While cumbersome to transport, Moroccan ceramics and rugs can become valued, functional souvenirs.
